KUCHING: The Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) has set a tax revenue collection target of RM7.6 billion from Sarawak for the year 2024.

Its chief executive officer Datuk Abu Tariq Jamaluddin said the board collected RM6.8 billion in tax revenues in Sarawak last year.

“Sarawak successfully achieved a tax collection of RM6.8 billion in 2023, and will increase this year as it does every year, in line with the economic development brought by the state government.

“When the state’s economy grows, the expected tax collection also grows,” he said when met by reporters after a courtesy visit to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) complex here today (May 13).

Abu Tariq said that the percentage of tax payment compliance in the state was satisfactory.

“LHDN will continue to enhance compliance activities to enable individuals to pay taxes through cooperation with government agencies towards assisting in income tax collection,” he added.

Earlier, Abang Johari received a courtesy visit from the Tanjung Manis Port Authority led by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also the Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development.

Also in the delegation was Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad, who is the Tanjung Manis Port Authority chairman.
