SIMUNJAN: A total of 150 recipients from Simunjan district received assistance from the Sarawak Social Welfare Department (JKMS) in conjunction with Gawai Dayak celebration.
According to Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris, the assistance from JKMS Samarahan division which often assists and conducts field visits to identify the needs of the local community, especially in the constituency, is much appreciated.
“The organisation of programmes like this can benefit the community, where such contributions can alleviate the burden of the less fortunate,” he said.
Awla said this when speaking during the Majlis Sejambak Kasih Hari Gawai Tahun 2024 at the Simunjan Community Hall on Thursday.
Awla added that JKMS has distributed a total contribution of RM2,661,800 to 26,618 recipients throughout Sarawak through the programme.
“JKMS plays its role in providing financial assistance to underprivileged children to continue their education and also to assist the elderly and disabled in the country,” said Awla.
During the event, each recipient received cash amounting to RM100 and a hamper worth of RM80.
