KUCHING: Media agencies in Sarawak can look forward to learning from the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) during their upcoming visit in conjunction with the National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA).

Kuching Divisional Journalists’ Association (KDJA) Deputy President Zulazhar Sheblee said Sarawakian journalists can gain valuable insights on news processing from the NUJ.

Additionally, local media agencies can learn about how the union ensures the welfare of its members.

“They (NUJ) will come to hold an exhibition, where they will explain about the privileges (of of having a union) as media personnel in the peninsula as there is no union (related to the media) in Sarawak.

“So when they come here, we can learn. I hope newspaper companies can learn from them too,” he said.

He said this when interviewed on the ‘Juh Randau’ Programme by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) at the UKAS Studio on Thursday (May 16).

Besides exchanging experiences with Sarawak journalists, Zulazhar noted that the union can provide valuable insights to local newspaper companies in the state.

“We can learn a lot of things from them, including finding suitable salaries for fellow journalists and photographers,” he said.

Also present during the interview was KDJA President Ronnie Teo Teck Wei.
