KUCHING: Efforts are underway to fill vacancies for officers of varying grade levels in the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).

Malaysia Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Director-General Datuk Nor Hisham Mohammad said there are about 128 vacancies.

“As of now, the department is screening a total of 509 officers from Grade 19, Grade 29, and Grade 41 to fill in the vacancies in Sarawak,” he said at a press conference here Monday.

“After finishing the screening process, we will announce the results when we station the new officers at their respective locations,” he said.

In addition, Hisham said the state will get Compact Fire Rescue Tenders (CFRT) distributed in phases this year.

“We expect the CFRTs to be more effective in travelling on wider roads and withstanding topographical hazards at some places.

“For now, Bomba Sarawak is expected to receive a total of 15 CFRTs by this year end,” said Hisham.
