KANOWIT: Five families have been instructed to evacuate to a temporary relief centre (PPS) due to rising floodwaters affecting four houses in the Nanga Tada Resettlement Scheme today (June 3).

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Kanowit station were dispatched to the scene, about 67km away, after receiving a distress call at 8.16am.

Upon arrival, they found that waters had risen to about one foot above floor level at one two-storey house and three single-storey houses.

With the rainy weather and waters not receding, the team alerted the District Officer and police on the need for immediate evacuation.

At 10.30am, the Dewan Penghulu Seribu Nanga Tada PPS was officially opened. The team later assisted 28 residents from five families to the PPS for temporary shelter.

Authorities are still monitoring the current situation in the resettlement scheme.
