SIBU: The What About Kuching Festival (WAK) will be held in Sibu from July 25 to 28 at the Sibu Heritage Centre.
Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) deputy chairman Mohammad Iskandar Roseley said WAK is an open-access festival platform dedicated to the arts, culture and lifestyle.
He added that WAK Sibu invites many creative communities in and around Sibu to join the festival celebrations.
“Since its inception as a grassroots festival in 2017, WAK has become a significant feature in our tourism calendar, attracting 277,766 attendees in 2023.
“This success has encouraged Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, to expand the festival to other cities in Sarawak, especially Sibu and Miri,” he said here on Monday (June 24).
WAK showcases a wide range of genres from the creative community, including live music performances, sports challenges, arts and crafts exhibitions, children’s programs, local community showcases and international professional workshops.
The festival aims to promote the passion of local creatives to both local and global audiences, following its principle: “By the Community, For the Community.”
Meanwhile, festival manager Brendan Chin said WAK aims to boost tourism and benefit the local economy while providing platforms for individuals to showcase their pursuits in arts, culture, and lifestyle. “The call for proposals for WAK Sibu starts on June 24.”
Collaborators and creatives interested in staging their events at WAK Sibu must submit their proposals online at www.aboutkuching.com or https://bit.ly/waksibucfp
“The Call for Proposal form and detailed festival information, including a step-by-step guide for submissions, are available on the website. All proposals must be submitted by June 30.”
