BAU: Police arrested two locals for allegedly stealing cables from a telecommunication substation in the wee hours of yesterday (July 15).
The arrests were made around 1.30 am when a police patrol encountered a suspicious Perodua Viva parked in front of the substation along Jalan Kampung Suba Buan.
Bau police chief DSP Jawai Francis Kempas said the team checked the surrounding area before finding two men, aged 27 and 36, inside the substation.
“Also seized from them were a coil of cut cable and various equipment use to cut cables.
“The suspects, together with the seized items, were taken to Bau district police headquarters (IPD) for further action,” she said.
Background checks revealed that both of them had prior records related to substance abuse.
Jawai added that the suspects are being remanded for four days to facilitate investigations and identify their involvement in other theft cases.
The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft, which carries imprisonment of up to seven years and a fine.
