PADAWAN: Kampung Emperoh Semadang has been proposed as a hub of processing and packaging banana chips in Mambong.
Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said the banana chip industry holds strong potential.
“The initiatives by the Emperoh Semadang Women’s Bureau to support small-scale banana chip entrepreneurs are highly commendable and well-suited for fostering local small businesses,” he said.
He was speaking during the launching of a programme by the Emperoh Semadang Women’s Bureau Small Business Entrepreneurs Bureau on Saturday (Aug 3).
Dr Jerip said that these efforts align with Mambong’s development agenda, which emphasises tourism and agriculture.
He suggested that Kampung Emperoh Semadang, Kampung Emperoh Garung, and Kampung Punau, which are active in banana chip production, undergo training to improve product quality and marketing strategies.
“This will ensure that each food product meets established standards,” he added.
During the event, Dr Jerip announced a RM3 million allocation for street lighting along Jalan Puncak from Kota Padawan to Kampung Annah Rais.
He also approved a special grant of RM50,000 to the Emperoh Semadang Women’s Bureau for food handling training related to banana chips and for the bureau’s annual activities.
Also present were assistant administrative officer of the Padawan District Office Paul Mathiues Akin, Kampung Emperoh Semadang village chief Austin Mapus and chief of the Emperoh Semadang Women’s Bureau Frider Rimong.
