BINTULU: The Labang-Tubau water supply project here is expected to be completed in the second quarter of next year.

Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi said the project, costing RM130.6 million, is set to benefit 62 houses and villages along the Labang to Tubau road, covering around 3,310 residents.

“The project is divided into two main packages under the Sarawak Water Supply Grid System.

“Package 1 involves the installation of a 98-km pipeline to increase water pressure from Labang to Tubau.

“Meanwhile, Package 2 includes the construction of a water treatment plant with a capacity of 10 million litres per day, two high-level tanks with a capacity of 3.5 million litres each, a three-million-litre reservoir, an intake water system, and mechanical and electrical infrastructure,” he said during a visit to the project site here on Monday (Oct 28).

Julaihi said the project will ensure a more reliable supply of clean water to the area and maximise the water supply capacity.

He also emphasised the importance of the project in meeting the basic needs of rural communities and supporting Sarawak’s sustainable development initiatives.

Among those present during the visit were Utility and Telecommunication Ministry permanent secretary Datuk Jafri Lias and Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) director Awg Mohammad Fadillah Awg Redzuan.
