KUCHING: The areas in Gedong right up to Betong will be developed into a modern agricultural belt.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government will develop Gedong, Simunjan, Asajaya, Sadong Jaya, Sebuyau, Sri Aman and Betong as part of a modern agricultural zone.
“These areas, among others, will become a modern agricultural area focusing on paddy and coconut.
“In Sebangan, we have already agreed to replant new species of coconuts. Next, we will also develop new coconut plantations in Lubok Ipoi including growing pineapples,” he said.
He said this when closing the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Gedong delegates meeting at Raia Hotel and Convention Centre Kuching on Sunday.
Abang Johari, who is Gedong assemblyman said all these development plans will take time to complete but will yield results.
“These plans require substantial funding for drainage, irrigation systems, and other infrastructure. But we are committed to turning these areas into a thriving modern agriculture zone,” he said.
He added new roads will also be constructed connecting Samarahan and Gedong.
“We will build new roads from Kampung Sambir, it will be a dual carriageway right up to Gedong.
“This highway will improve access, open up land, and pave the way for modern development,” he said.
He urged landowners in the area to safeguard their assets for long-term benefits.
“Do not sell your land. Protect it so it can bring returns in the future,” he said.
