KUCHING: Hope Place reached out to a widow, Imut Entiaw, 71, who lives alone in Kampung Lubuk Buan, Stampin here.

The organisation, in a statement yesterday (Dec 12), said they were contacted by Imut’s neighbour, Annabelle, regarding her situation.

With no children of her own, Imut has been struggling to make ends meet after losing her husband, Richard, earlier this September.

Richard’s death was a big blow to Imut. After nearly three months, Imut is still not used to living alone.

“Sometimes I cry myself to sleep at night. I quietly wish Richard were still with me, and I don’t have much appetite nowadays. There’s not much point in cooking just for myself,” she said when met by the NGO recently.

Since her husband’s death, Annabelle has been helping her, as well as Richard’s former employer, who sponsored all the funeral costs.

Now, Imut tries to earn a little income by selling drinks from her home.

“Being thrifty, Imut seldom turns on the lights at night so that she can reduce her electricity bills. Annabelle is in the midst of applying for social welfare assistance for Imut.

“Hope Place, on the other hand, is supporting her with continuous basic food supplies,” Hope Place said.
