KUCHING: A total of 39 new ‘Projek Rakyat’ (People’s Projects) are set to be implemented in Sarawak next year, with a total investment of RM6.07 billion.
Deputy Premier and Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD) Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas announced that the tendering process for these projects will begin next year.
“Beside all these projects, the ministry through the Public Works Department (PWD) Sarawak will be supervising not less than RM1.6 billion worth of infrastructural and amenity projects from all nine regional development agencies,” he said.
He said this during the ministry’s appreciation dinner for government departments and agencies which had helped it in the successful implementations of infrastructural programmes and projects here last night (Dec 14).
Uggah also conveyed the state’s appreciation for the work done by MIPD and PWD.
“So we should not let them down and stay very focussed on the tasks at hand.
“But we would have not been able to achieve our success without the commitment, discipline and hard work of our officers as well as officers from all other departments and agencies involved.
“Thank you very much for your contributions,” he said.
Uggah noted that MIPD will send more young officers to participate in courses related to the latest engineering technologies, management strategies, and other fields.
“We want them to not only be efficient, keeping abreast with the latest knowledge but very competent as well.
“And again we want all to have the highest degree of integrity so that we can become a world class organisation in the country,” he said.
Among those present were Uggah’s two deputy ministers Datuk Majang Renggi and Datuk Aidel Lariwoo, MIPD Permanent Secretary Datuk Chiew Chee Yaw and PWD Sarawak director Dr Cassidy Morris.
