SARIKEI: The Sarawak Housing Development Corporation (HDC) loan scheme has an outstanding loan amount of RM4,024,179.80 as of November 2024.

Balingian assemblyman and HDC chairman Abdul Yakub Arbi said RM31,844,506.96 has been disbursed under the scheme to benefit 70 longhouses, reflecting an arrears rate of 12.64 per cent.

He urged longhouse residents benefiting from the scheme to repay their loans promptly to ensure its sustainability and to support future applicants.

“Repayment of the Longhouse Loan Scheme for Individuals (PKPRP) is not just an individual responsibility but a social trust.

“If it is not fulfilled, it will jeopardise opportunities for future generations to enjoy the same facilities,” he said during a Randau session with assemblymen and tuai rumah regarding the scheme here on Tuesday (Dec 17).

Abdul Yakub noted that the PKPRP scheme operates as a rolling fund, making loan repayments essential for providing funding to new applicants.

“Failure to repay will disrupt the fund and delay the loan process for future borrowers.”

To address the issue of arrears, Abdul Yakub called for active involvement from assemblymen and tuai rumah to encourage residents to fulfill their repayment obligations.

Also present at the session were Pakan assemblyman Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom, Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing, Meluan assemblyman Roland Duat Jubin, and HDC chief executive officer Fathi Hambali.
