SIBU: The Community Development Department (KEMAS) nursery school plays a significant role in providing a holistic and quality early education platform, in accordance with the physical, mental, emotional, and social development needs of children.

Pointing this out, Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker Alice Lau Kiong Yieng said that through creative and innovative learning activities, children are not only given basic knowledge such as reading, writing, and arithmetic, but also noble values such as discipline, respect, and togetherness.

According to her, all of this is important for producing balanced and competitive individuals in the future.

“The government has also always supported early education initiatives like this because we believe that investing in early education means investing in the future of the country.

“This young generation will be the leaders, skilled workforce, and pioneers in their respective fields,” she said at the KEMAS P.211 Lanang Kindergarten Children’s Appreciation Day ceremony 2024, held at a prominent hotel here yesterday (Dec 19).

Lau was represented by her private secretary, Stanley Chew, who delivered her speech.

The Lanang Member of Parliament said the Madani government is always concerned about the burdens of the people and is trying to alleviate the difficulties faced by the community.

“Therefore, the government has confirmed that there will be no increase in fees for KEMAS-run Kindergartens and Childcare Centres (Taska) for the school session next year,” she said.

She called upon the community to continue supporting the KEMAS Kindergarten early childhood education programme because education is the foundation of a community’s progress.

Meanwhile, Sibu Division KEMAS Officer Ami Fariza Mat Jusoh said that 36 out of 39 KEMAS kindergarten classes, with a total of 272 children aged six who will be entering Year One, will receive certificates and prizes at the ceremony.

“A total of 385 children are aged four and five, bringing the total number to 657 according to the enrolment data this year,” she said.

She added that the ceremony was organised to bring parents or guardians closer to what happens to their children in the nursery.
