OYA: ‘Pilgrim’, the stranded Russian sailing boat in Oya, was successfully pulled ashore using a Kobe excavator today (Dec 30).

 Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the hull repairs would be carried out by experienced local residents skilled in boat restoration.

“The repairs will begin soon. They will be followed by engine repairs which are expected to take more than a month,” she said.

The crew members identified as Sergei Sinelnik,Sergei Muravickiy, Valim Raficov and Olec Golovankoy are between 45 and 54 years old.

Three crew members, including the ship’s captain are currently staying at a Lebuk Kaul Oya owned by the local village committee, with discounted rates facilitated by Penghulu Pawi.

However, one crew member is set to return to Russia, sponsored by Mohd Jezeri.

The crew are set to file a police report tomorrow (Dec 31) at the Oya Police Station, followed by formalities with the Marine Department, Immigration, and Customs, supported by the Dalat Police Chief Tuan Saga and his team.
