KUCHING: The Ministry of Works (KKR), through the Public Works Department (PWD), remains committed to enhancing educational infrastructure nationwide, including in Sabah and Sarawak.
Minister of Works Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi emphasised that this initiative aligns with the country’s educational reform agenda aimed at improving the quality of education.
He said that the implementation of educational projects, particularly the Poor School Programme, is designed to provide better, more comfortable facilities and create a conducive and safe learning environment for students and staff.
“Under the 12th Malaysia Plan allocation, PWD Malaysia, through the Education Works Branch, has been entrusted with 92 projects in Sabah and 36 projects in Sarawak as the implementing agency,” he said.
He said this during his speech at the Letter of Acceptance ceremony for one of the Poor School Projects in Sabah (2023) – the reconstruction of dilapidated buildings at Sekolah Kebangsaan Batu Putih Baru, Sandakan, Sabah at Puteri Ballroom, Damai Lagoon Resort today (Feb12).
Nanta highlighted that the number of projects handled by PWD Malaysia for the Ministry of Education (KPM) continues to increase each year.
However, he pointed out that the development allocation is not limited to the implementation by KKR Malaysia alone, as PWD Sarawak and PWD Sabah have also been entrusted with projects from KPM valued up to RM 50 million.
“I am pleased that the inter-ministerial and agency cooperation has the shared goal of providing the best educational infrastructure, particularly for the people of Sarawak and Sabah,” he added.
