MIRI: A large-scale clean-up effort got underway here Sunday with the city mobilising resources to address the aftermath of devastating floods that recently swept through the city.
The Mega Cleanup Programme, from 8am to 12.30pm, covered five key zones heavily affected by the disaster, namely, Zone 1: Lutong (Kampung Pengkalan Lutong & Kampung Pasir); Zone 2: Tudan (Tudan Desaras & Tudan Phase 4 and 5); Zone 3: Permyjaya (Desa Indah 3, Desa Murni & Desa Pujut 2); Zone 4: Pujut (Pujut 4 to 9); and Zone 5: RPR Batu 6.
Organised by local government agencies, with support from emergency response teams, NGOs, institutions, and community volunteers, participants set out to clear debris, remove hazardous waste, and ensure that residential and commercial areas are safe for rebuilding efforts.
This initiative followed three earlier clean-up programmes conducted in other flood-hit areas: Kampung Pujut Sungai Adong, Kampung Pujut Tanjung Batu and Desa Senadin and Damai Jaya.
“The Post-Flooding Cleanup Programme demonstrates the resilience and unity of our community,” said Mayor Adam Yii.
“With the combined efforts of local authorities, emergency teams, and volunteers, we are determined to rebuild safer, stronger neighbourhoods,” he added.
