MIRI: Wireless Walk Miri Traders Association chairman, Mohamad Abdullah bin Jamin, has called on the government to take immediate action to address the worsening shortage of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) here.
“Residents are queuing up in long lines just to get hold of a single cylinder of LPG for daily household use,” he said after joining a queue at a Petros LPG supply agent near Emart Tudan this afternoon.
More than 200 residents were seen lining up in hopes of securing an LPG cylinder.
However, many left empty-handed after scouring multiple outlets across the city.
“The shortage is affecting many people. They are forced to search for LPG cylinders at various locations, often with no success. This is a basic necessity that cannot be overlooked,” he stressed.
Mohamad urged the government, particularly the ministry responsible, to intervene immediately to stabilise and ensure a sufficient supply of LPG.
He recommended stricter monitoring of LPG distribution to prevent any form of misuse or smuggling, which could exacerbate the crisis.
Additionally, he proposed that the government increase the LPG supply quota for Miri and implement a more efficient distribution system.
“This issue needs to be resolved swiftly for the well-being of both traders and the local community,” Mohamad added.
The LPG cylinder shortage here has persisted for the past few days, leaving residents scrambling for supplies.
The situation stems from a landslide that struck an LPG factory in Bintulu following heavy rains early February
The incident disrupted production and distribution, leading to supply constraints in surrounding areas, including Miri.
