Brunei, Sarawak strengthen energy sector cooperation

KUCHING: Brunei Darussalam has expressed its commitment to strengthening cooperation with Sarawak in the energy sector to ensure regional energy security.

During a bilateral meeting with Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi, Deputy Minister (Energy) at the Prime Minister’s Department of Brunei Darussalam Datuk Seri Paduka Awang Mohamad Azmi Mohamad Hanifah noted the importance of close collaboration between neighbouring countries to sustain the energy sector.

“As neighbouring countries, we continuously strive to strengthen cooperation in the energy sector.

“In this meeting, we will further discuss several key issues of mutual interest,” he said when met by reporters yesterday.

He also expressed Brunei’s readiness to explore more opportunities for cooperation with Sarawak for mutual benefit.

“We want to ensure energy security in the region is always safeguarded and will continue working with strategic partners to achieve this goal,” he added.

The meeting was held following an invitation from Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, alongside a request from the Energy Industries Council (EIC) for participation in an official event as a guest.

It served as an important platform to discuss strategic aspects of the energy sector and strengthen relations between Sarawak and Brunei in efforts to ensure the stability of energy supply in the region.
