SIBU: Several areas in the town are experiencing water issues due to the theft of a critical power cable belonging to Sarawak Energy.
According to Sibu Water Board (SWB), the incident has disrupted the power supply to the Salim Treatment Plant, halting the water treatment process.
“As a result, water reservoir levels are dropping, and the board is compelled to regulate water pumping to maintain critical reservoir levels,” SWB said in a statement today (Feb 25).
SWB stressed that it is coordinating closely with Sarawak Energy to restore the power supply as quickly as possible.
It added that their technical team is on standby to resume normal operations once power is restored.
“Areas affected by this interruption will be notified directly, and water tankers will be deployed to provide an emergency supply to critical locations, such as hospitals and schools.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and appreciate the public’s patience and understanding during this time,” it said.
Updates on the restoration progress will be provided periodically.
