BAU: Eight local men, four of whom were allegedly caught with syabu, were arrested in a district-wide narcotics operation that also saw every suspect testing positive for drug abuse.
The suspects, aged between 23 and 31, were detained by the district Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) during raids at Kampung Skiat Lama, Kampung Merembeh, Kampung Pangkalan Tebang and Kampung Tringgus yesterday (Jul 15).
Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said police seized four plastic packets containing 1.19g of crystalline substances believed to be syabu, with an estimated street value of RM120.
“The four suspects found in possession of the drugs were arrested under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
“Preliminary urine screening also found all eight suspects positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, and they are further arrested under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act,” he said.
The suspects comprised four unemployed men, two labourers, a private-sector land surveyor and an audio technician.
Background checks found that four of the suspects had prior drug-related records, while the remaining four had no prior offences.
“During questioning, two of them admitted to consuming syabu three days before their arrest.
“Four said they had taken the drug a day earlier, while the remaining two claimed they last used it four days before they were arrested,” he said.
Mohd Haide said the four suspects arrested for drug possession are being remanded, while another suspect was scheduled to be charged in connection with an earlier drug-related case.
