SERIAN: Eight individuals tested positive for drugs during a multi-agency enforcement operation along Jalan Serian–Sri Aman and Jalan Kuching–Serian yesterday (Jul 15).

The integrated operation, conducted by the Sarawak Road Transport Department (RTD) together with the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK), the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Sarawak Immigration Department, also saw 103 notices issued for various traffic and vehicle-related offences.

A total of 238 vehicles of various types were inspected throughout the operation.

In terms of drug use, AADK detected six individuals who tested positive for drugs, comprising two cannabis cases, two ketum cases and two methamphetamine cases.

Meanwhile, narcotics police identified two more individuals who tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.

Further action has been taken by the respective agencies under their respective jurisdictions.

Among the offences detected by RTD were the use of non-compliant HID/LED lights, overloading, expired road tax, driving without a valid licence, lack of insurance coverage, breaching permit conditions and other technical vehicle violations.

The department said all enforcement actions were taken in accordance with existing laws.

No immigration-related offences were detected during the operation.

Such integrated operations would continue to strengthen road law enforcement, combat drug abuse and promote safer roads.
