Over 2,000 to get industry certification at Centexs convocation

KUCHING: A total of 2,043 graduates from the Centre for Excellence Technology Sarawak (Centexs) Industry and ESG Academy (IESGA) and Digital, Green Energy and Aerospace Academy (DGEA) will be getting their industry-based competency certificates during a three-day convocation from Feb 26.

According to its chairman, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani, among the graduates for the Centexs 9th Convocation ceremony, 1,624 are from IESGA, while 419 are from DGEA.

“The graduates come from various locations, including 935 from Kuching, 527 from Lundu, 103 from Betong, 211 from Mukah, 129 from Dalat, and 138 from Lawas.

“Of the total, 41 are university graduates and 1,583 are school leavers from IESGA, while 154 university graduates and 265 school leavers are from DGEA.

“These graduates are completing 52 programmes out of the 84 offered by Centexs, covering Artificial Intelligence, Microelectronics, Green Energy, Oil & Gas, Electrical, Land and Survey, Environmental Sustainability, Fashion Technology, Heritage, and Hospitality and Tourism,” he said.

He said this in his welcoming speech during the ceremony officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg here on Wednesday.

Morshidi said these programmes are both National and International certified from industry leaders including Amazon Web Services (AWS), TWI (The Welding Institute, a world leader in this welding area), CSWIP (Welding Inspector Programme), Huawei, Solarvest solar), SMD (semiconductor), Melexis, Synopsis, Land Surveyors Board Sarawak, Electrical Inspectorate Unit (EIU) and others.

On a related note, he said that Centexs is also advancing its aerospace training, following the launch of its Aerospace Academy on Oct 8, 2024.

“Centexs has extensively worked on aerospace academy technical training with Certificate in Aerospace Sheet Metal Training, Certificate in Aerospace Machining Operations, Certificate in Aerospace CNC Machining, Certificate in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (Aeroplane Turbine), Certificate in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (Helicopter Turbine), Certificate in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (Avionics) and Launch Vehicle.

“Since Nov 2024, 98 students are now currently undergoing these programmes.

“To complement each others programmes, iCATS will undertake higher level academic programmes with Degrees, Masters and PhDs, focusing on producing engineers and aerospace management graduates, among others where our Centexs graduates can pursue too if they are keen and vice versa,” he said.

He also said that Cenyexs is developing programmes related to Seaport, Airport, carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) CCUS.

“We will soon offer our Electric Vehicle (EV) programmes in Centexs Mukah namely Certificate in Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) Maintenance & Battery Management System (BMS) Diagnostics, and Certificate in Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) Powertrain and Thermal Management Service,” said Morshidi.

At the convocation ceremony, Abang Johari also witnessed the exchange of Memorandum of Agreement (MOU) documents between Centexs and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak (DVSS), Maragang Green Valley Dairy Sdn Bhd (MGVD), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Sarawak Energy Berhad, Dewan Bandaraya Kuching Utara, Ministry of Transport Sarawak, Sarawak River Board, Sarawak Tourism Board, Bintulu Port Authority, Universiti Teknologi Mara, Dynamik Technologies and Knowledge Grid International Sdn Bhd.
