SIBU: The road upgrading project at Jalan Kwong Ting here began on Tuesday, said Councillor Kevin Lau.

The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan Branch chairman said that the road upgrading project, upon completion, is expected to enhance the safety of road users.

“During the project progress inspection on Wednesday, we engaged in discussions with the contractor regarding specific improvements required for certain sections of the road.

“We hope to ensure that priority is given to upgrading areas prone to water accumulation (flooding) and widening the bends to enhance road user safety,” he said in a statement today (Feb 27).

Lau said that the proposal for this project was submitted to the Sibu Rural District Council last year and was approved under the Malaysian Road Records Information System (MARRIS) Fund to facilitate the road improvement works.

“My team and I will continue to monitor the progress of the project until its completion and conduct a final inspection with the relevant authorities,” he added.

He expressed his gratitude to community leader Kapitan Tang Chuo Ging for his assistance in keeping a close watch on local living conditions and road conditions, as well as for his close cooperation with the team in serving the local residents.
