KUCHING: Integrity remains the cornerstone of a transparent, efficient, and credible Sarawak Civil Service (SCS), ensuring that its service delivery system remains effective and beneficial to the people.
State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki emphasised that civil servants must strictly adhere to established procedures and regulations in all their decisions and actions.
“There can be no compromise when it comes to procedural violations and non-compliance with regulations, as such actions erode public trust in the government.
“I, therefore, urge all civil servants to uphold integrity in every aspect of their duties and to avoid any form of abuse of power or personal gain,” he said during his monthly address for March 2025 yesterday (Feb 28).
Abu Bakar also highlighted the crucial role of department heads in ensuring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), which is fundamental to maintaining an efficient administration.
He called on all department heads and their officers to enforce full adherence to SOPs without exception.
Additionally, he reaffirmed the Sarawak government’s commitment to ensuring that all planned development projects are executed and completed within their stipulated timeframes.
“Close monitoring of ongoing projects must be a priority. Department heads and implementing agencies must ensure each project is closely tracked in terms of both physical progress and financial status to prevent delays or non-compliance,” he explained.
Abu Bakar further underscored the importance of audit reports as a key mechanism in assessing transparency and efficiency in public service management.
“I want to stress that every finding or reprimand from an audit must be taken seriously, with immediate corrective action taken where necessary,” he said.
In concluding his address, he expressed optimism for a more efficient and transparent public service and extended his best wishes for the upcoming month of Ramadan.
“I am confident that with strong teamwork, discipline, and unwavering dedication, we can build a public service that is efficient, transparent, and grounded in integrity.
“Let us ensure that the services we provide are always of the highest standard for the benefit of the people and the state of Sarawak.
“May the blessings of Ramadan strengthen our resolve to serve with greater sincerity, integrity, and responsibility, contributing to the development of the state and the wellbeing of its people,” he said.
