BINTANGOR: The Volunteer Patrol Scheme (SRS) in Meradong has played a crucial role in enhancing community safety, with 155 successful patrol operations conducted throughout 2024.
Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing said the SRS, comprising local volunteers and under the Neighbourhood Watch Area (KRT) in Meradong District has successfully demonstrated its impact in safeguarding local communities.
“I therefore hoped the SRS operations would continue and be further strengthened this year to ensure security in all areas within the district,” he said.
He said when officiating at the Meradong District KRT appreciation ceremony, held in collaboration with the Sarikei Division National Unity and Integration Department (JPNIN) at Bintangor Community Hall here recently.
Ding added the success of the patrols reflects the importance of community involvement in crime prevention while also supporting law enforcement agencies, particularly the Royal Malaysian Police.

“This achievement demonstrates the effectiveness of SRS in safeguarding local communities, especially in residential areas, villages, and longhouses,” he said.
He then stressed that religious, cultural, and traditional differences are not obstacles to fostering unity in carrying out SRS duties.
He pointed out that diversity is a strength, making Sarawakians uniquely united.
“We also hope KRT will continue to be actively involved in initiatives that promote harmony and unity within the community,” said Ding.
