KUCHING: Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (PETROS) has formally reached out to Petroliam Nasional Bhd (PETRONAS) to discuss the details of a potential collaboration in Sarawak’s oil and gas industry.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said PETROS recently sent a letter to PETRONAS outlining the need to address key administrative and commercial aspects before finalising the partnership.
“If an agreement cannot be reached, the matter will be brought up to the Prime Minister and our Premier for further review.
“For now, PETROS and PETRONAS must work out the specifics, including commercial arrangements and aligning legal frameworks to ensure smooth cooperation,” he said.
He told the media this at the Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) Friendly Neighbourhood’s ‘bubur pedas’ distribution programme at Satok Sports Complex today.
Fadillah, who also serves as Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, said PETROS is currently awaiting a response from PETRONAS regarding the proposal.
In the event that discussions fail to arrive at a consensus, he reiterated that the matter would be referred to the highest level of government.
Meanwhile, at the programme, 75 underprivileged individuals received special Ramadan contributions from Fadillah, who is also Petra Jaya Member of Parliament, while dignitaries distributed porridge to attendees.
