KUCHING: Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof, has pledged to continue contributing towards strengthening Malaysia’s legal system, justice and governance after being conferred the title of Honorary Bencher by the Inns of Court Malaysia (ICM).

Describing the recognition as more than a personal honour, Fadillah said it also carries a responsibility to support efforts to uphold the rule of law and strengthen the nation’s legal institutions.

“This recognition is not merely a personal honour, but a trust for me to continue contributing towards strengthening the country’s legal system, justice and governance,” he said in a Facebook post after receiving the recognition during the ICM 10th Anniversary Gala Dinner held in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday (June 27).

Fadillah expressed his appreciation to the president, executive committee and members of the Inns of Court Malaysia for the honour and confidence placed in him.

He said that over the past decade, ICM has played an important role in promoting excellence within the legal profession, strengthening professional ethics, expanding legal education, and upholding the rule of law in Malaysia.

“Law is not merely a collection of statutes or regulations. It is the foundation of justice, stability, progress and harmony in a nation. Public confidence in the justice system can only be strengthened when the law is implemented fairly, transparently, and without fear or favour,” he said.

Fadillah also shared his views on the evolving legal landscape shaped by artificial intelligence (AI), digitalisation, cybersecurity and emerging technologies.

While acknowledging AI’s potential to improve efficiency and expand access to justice, he stressed that wisdom, integrity and moral responsibility remain values that technology cannot replace.

“I believe Malaysia will continue to progress as a peaceful, prosperous and respected nation if we continue to uphold institutional independence, strengthen legal education, enhance professionalism and safeguard the rule of law as the foundation of national governance,” he said.

The gala dinner was attended by the Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.
