KUCHING: The Batang Rajang Bridge, part of the Pasi-Sibu/Tanjung Manis Road, will be opened to the public after a pre-launch event on March 28, just days before ‘hari raya’.
This offers shorter travel times for road users in Tanjung Manis, Pulau Bruit, Sarikei, Daro and Matu.
Public Works Department (PWD) Sarawak director Dr Cassidy Morris told TVS that while the bridge would be accessible, minor works were still ongoing.
“Motorists are advised to exercise caution when using the bridge and to adhere to all traffic regulations for their safety,” he was quoted as saying.
On behalf of PWD Sarawak, Cassidy also extended Aidilfitri greetings and wished everyone a safe journey to their destinations.
Earlier, Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Deputy Minister Datuk Len Talif Salleh, who is also Kuala Rajang assemblyman, noted that the bridge’s opening would significantly reduce travel time and distance.
Once operational, motorists will be able to travel directly from Sarikei to Tanjung Manis in just 45 minutes, compared to the current two- to three-hour journey via Sibu, which is also the main route to Daro.
