KUCHING: The Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation Bhd (SDEC) is becoming increasingly active in assisting entrepreneurs to transition towards the digital economy.
SDEC Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Ir Ts Sudarnoto Osman, said among the initiatives launched to digitise entrepreneurs in Sarawak is the introduction of the ‘Go Digital’ programme.
“We are currently collaborating with more research groups in an effort to bring ideas towards commercialisation and real-world solutions for entrepreneurs themselves,” he said.
Sudarnoto said this during the Media Appreciation Night held at Roxy Impiana Hotel on Thursday.
“This is because we are committed to digitising entrepreneurs through various programmes, including ‘Go Digital’, where we provide them with quality equipment,” he added.
In addition, he explained that SDEC last year also launched the Innovation Hub in Mukah and the ‘Makeramai Makerspace’ at Plaza Merdeka.
It serves as a hub for students, researchers and entrepreneurs to explore technology, collaborate across disciplines, and turn ideas into practical solutions.
Among other achievements, he shared that one of SDEC’s major milestones last year was the launch of the Multi-Operator Core Network (MOCN) Technology at six sites of the Sarawak Multimedia Authority Rural Telecommunication (SMART) towers.
This technology enables multiple mobile network operators to share the same core network infrastructure while maintaining their respective radio access networks (RAN).
“Last year, we successfully launched the world’s first six-way market, enabling rural users to use any SIM card without restrictions.
“In addition, we focused on digital empowerment programmes like Go Digital and SME Digitised to help entrepreneurs access quality digital tools,” he elaborated.
He also announced that the Sarawak Digital Residency Programme (SRDP), which aims to attract more digital nomads to Sarawak, is now in its pilot phase and currently open to selected members of the public.
“This is to ensure that all processes run smoothly, especially in terms of immigration management,” he said.
Sudarnoto further highlighted SDEC’s involvement in various digital economy projects, including the digitalisation of the agriculture sector to boost productivity and yields, as well as the development of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure to support the rising use of EVs in Sarawak.
“We are excited to work closely with our media partners in these efforts and hope the support we’ve received so far will continue,” he concluded.
