KUCHING: A total of 19 ASEAN meetings are scheduled to take place in Kuching this year in conjunction with Malaysia’s chairmanship of ASEAN.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs secretary-general Datuk Seri Amran Mohamed Zin said the decision was made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to ensure that the meetings are held beyond the capital city.

“For Sarawak alone, we have 19 ASEAN meetings planned in Kuching, and as of today, we have already held seven ASEAN meetings.

“Next week, there will be 12 more meetings, including those at the ministerial level, senior officials, and various ASEAN working committees,” he said.

He told the media this after a courtesy visit to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Wisma Bapa Malaysia today (Apr 14).

During the meeting, they also discussed ongoing cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Sarawak government, particularly in diplomatic matters and official overseas visits.
