KUCHING: Sarawak is gearing up to take a leading role in the climate economy as it prepares to host the Asia Carbon Conference (ACC) 2025 from May 29 to 30 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).
The two-day conference, expected to attract over 400 delegates from across the globe, will be officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“The event signals the state’s growing commitment to climate action and its ambition to become a regional hub for sustainable development and carbon market innovation.
“One of the key sessions at ACC 2025 will spotlight Sarawak’s Net Zero pathway, with insights provided by professional services firm PwC.
“The session aims to showcase Sarawak’s strategic potential in environmental stewardship, particularly in harnessing its rich natural assets through carbon and blue carbon initiatives,” organiser Place Borneo Sdn Bhd said in its statement.
It added that the conference will also host a lineup of high-level speakers representing regional governments, carbon market associations, and environmental think tanks.

“Among them are Renard Siew, chairman of the Malaysian Carbon Association, who will share Malaysia’s policy integration strategies, and Riza Suarga, chairman of the Indonesian Carbon Trade Association, discussing Indonesia’s evolving market landscape.
“Highlighting international collaboration, Bhutan’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, represented by Chimi Dorji, and Colombia’s Ambassador to Malaysia Alejandro Rosselli, will share their respective nations’ experiences in global carbon trading and negotiations under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.
“Nature-based solutions (NbS) will be a central theme, with sessions focused on scaling up forest conservation and coastal ecosystem protection in Asean. Worldview International Foundation’s CEO, Kim Gabrielli — also a speaker at COP29 — will discuss regional blue carbon efforts alongside other experts exploring the role of biochar, reforestation, and carbon offset projects,” Place Borneo said.
It said industry leaders from Chevron, Golden Agri Resources, Akadiah, ProClime, and Southbridge will present innovative approaches to project financing, environmental commodities trading, and hybrid voluntary-compliance market systems.
“The inclusion of Sarawak in these high-level climate discussions reflects the state’s increasing visibility in international forums.
“It also aligns with efforts under the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which includes green economy initiatives and sustainability targets,” it said.
