LUNDU: The Sarawak General Operations Force (GOF) thwarted an attempt by three men to smuggle 900 sacks of onions into the country on Tuesday (April 22).

According to the Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department, the special operation — dubbed ‘Op Taring Awas/Batas’ — was carried out by the GOF 11th Battalion.

“The attempt to bring in controlled goods without permission was detected at an illegal route in the Kampung Raso oil palm plantation area, here.

“It led to the arrest of three local men and the seizure of three lorries carrying a four-tonne load, 900 sacks of ‘Export Quality Onions’, and three phones. The total value of the seizure is estimated at RM961,500,” the department said.

All three suspects failed to produce any valid documents related to the load.

The case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
