MIRI: A coordinated search and rescue (SAR) operation brought relief to three teenage girls who were found safe after losing their way during a hiking trip at Lambir National Park on Saturday evening.

The SAR team arrives at the national park as the urgent search begins for the missing girls.

A distress call was received by the Miri Central Fire and Rescue Station at 4:31 pm, prompting immediate deployment of personnel to the national park, located about 30 minutes from the city.

Initial attempts to contact the hikers to pinpoint their location proved unsuccessful, raising concerns about their safety and the terrain conditions.

Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on site at 4:52 pm and immediately proceeded to track the location of the missing individuals.

By 5:00 pm, communication was finally established with the trio, who were confirmed to be three local teenage girls.

They had lost their bearings while hiking deep within one of the park’s many forest trails.

A joint team comprising firefighters, local police, and park rangers worked together to locate the trio.

By 7:30 pm, the girls were found safe and unharmed, though visibly shaken by the ordeal.

On-site medical assessments confirmed that none of them sustained injuries.

SAR personnel then escorted the girls out of the forest via a 2.5-kilometre jungle trail.

The operation concluded at approximately 8:00 pm.
