SIBU: An elderly woman was sentenced to one day’s jail and fined RM1,000, in default, one month’s imprisonment by the Magistrates’ Court here on Tuesday for dealing with second-hand goods without valid license.
Lau Swie Eng, 66, from Jalan Mantis, pleaded guilty to the charge framed under Section 9 Second Hand Dealers Act 1946 which provides for a fine of up to RM1,000 or three months’ jail or both.
Magistrate Kork Chern handed down the sentence after Lau pleaded guilty to the charge.
According to fact of the case, on June 13 at about 5.30 pm, a team of policemen led by Insp Muhammad Syahmi raided at a house at Jalan Lada.
Following inspection at the place, it was found that the house owner identified as the accused was dealing in second hand goods, to wit, 15 units of marine electrical cable copper without any license.
The case was prosecuted by Insp Kumareswaran Murugan while the accused who was not represented by legal counsel, opted to pay the fine.
