KUCHING: A vibrant blend of opera, fashion, and traditional craftsmanship took centre stage at the Alta Moda Musical Soirée 2 held at The Waterfront Hotel here today (June 29).
The event, organised by Sarawak’s creative arts platform Prodigy in collaboration with CENTEXS and Tradisi Busana PR Sdn Bhd, featured live opera performances and a fashion showcase of handcrafted shoes designed and produced by CENTEXS shoemaking students and alumni.

Classical vocalist and creative producer Dodi Mohammad, together with soprano and Prodigy founder Sharnaz Saberi, captivated the audience with their performances, accompanied by the Prodigy Ensemble.
Guest of honour, CENTEXS chief executive officer Datuk Syeed Mohd Hussien Wan Abd Rahman officiated the ceremony and launched the Post-Course Entrepreneurship Programme, an initiative aimed at empowering CENTEXS graduates to establish sustainable artisan-based micro-enterprises.
Internationally recognised figures Dewi Liana Seriestha and Larissa Ping walked the runway in footwear designed by CENTEXS alumna Zamida Khadijah Abdul Wahed, created under her label Ida Hanicomb.
“Today, we celebrate not only music and design, but passion, where every curve, stitch, note and soul tells a story,” said Sharnaz during her speech.
Dodi, who co-led the artistic direction of the evening, highlighted the significance of the Alta Moda initiative.
“Alta Moda is not just a name. It began over a decade ago to honour elegance and artistry. Bringing it to Sarawak now is about celebrating our very own artisans,” he said.

He added that the Post-Course Entrepreneurship Programme represents a long-term investment in the growth of Sarawak’s creative talents.
“This is your beginning. We will continue working with each of you until you realise your own handmade legacy, following your own path, in your own time, in shoes that carry the soul of Sarawak,” he said.
He also expressed appreciation to the CENTEXS leadership and academic team for their strong belief in the potential of Sarawak’s shoe industry and creative sector.
