BELAGA: A viral video showing a special needs teenager being assaulted in Sungai Asap here, has led to swift police intervention and a peaceful resolution between the families involved.

Belaga police chief DSP Jimbai Bala said the incident gained public attention on June 28 after a video of the 16-year-old boy being attacked was uploaded to a Facebook page called ‘Borneo’.

Acting on the video, police swiftly identified all five teenage suspects, aged between 16 and 17, on the same day.

“On Jun 29, police located the victim and his father, and arranged a meeting at the Sungai Asap police post with the suspects and their families.

“Investigations revealed the assault had taken place on Jun 10, allegedly after the victim was accused of disturbing one of the suspects’ cousins.

“During the meeting, both parties agreed not to take further action, choosing instead to resolve the matter amicably for the sake of their children’s future,” Jimbai said.

The victim’s father later filed a police report confirming the resolution, and urged the public to stop sharing the video and images of his son to protect the teenager’s privacy and well-being.
