This iconic stretch in the heart of Kuching offers more than just shopping.

It preserves heritage architecture, promotes community interaction, and supports local businesses in a way few places still do.

Among those who took time to soak in its atmosphere today were the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, who were accompanied by their daughter Sharifah Fariah and granddaughter Athena.

During the relaxed weekend outing, they stopped by several local stores including Alena Boutique, Syarikat Naazimuddin, Zana by Nizamir, Pusaka Al-Azhar, Syarikat Jasmim Jawhar and Syarikat Quaisia Banu.

Their visit quickly drew the attention of fellow shoppers, with many taking the opportunity to greet the Governor and his family, exchange pleasantries and take photos.

Some visitors had come from as far as Sungai Asap, Belaga to spend their weekend in the city, and were delighted by the unexpected encounter while shopping with their families.

Wan Junaidi said he was grateful to spend quality time with his family and the public, adding that strong family bonds should continue to be nurtured despite the demands of daily life.

The couple also expressed hope that the India Street Pedestrian Mall will remain a vibrant attraction, offering a mix of goods, food and local culture in a setting that welcomes everyone.
