KUCHING: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian has described his first experience flying with AirBorneo from Kuching to Kuala Lumpur as a pleasant one, saying the aircraft departed ahead of schedule and arrived 20 minutes earlier than expected.
In a Facebook post, Dr Sim said Flight MY5005, which he boarded on Saturday (July 25), also offered complimentary meals, including Nasi Dabai prepared using Sarawak brown rice, in line with AirBorneo’s full-service airline concept.
He said passengers do not have to pay extra to enjoy in-flight meals, unlike on most low-cost carriers.
“The aircraft departed 10 minutes ahead of schedule and arrived 20 minutes early. I had the opportunity to enjoy Nasi Dabai made with Sarawak brown rice.
“AirBorneo is a full-service airline, so passengers do not need to purchase meals or pay additional charges,” he said.
Dr Sim added that the shorter-than-expected flight meant he did not have enough time to explore the in-flight entertainment options available.
He said that the in-flight WiFi is expected to be introduced by the end of this year.
In the same post, Dr Sim also raised the question of which global airline alliance AirBorneo should consider joining in the future, suggesting options such as Star Alliance, SkyTeam or Oneworld.
For the record, AirBorneo launched its inaugural Kuching–Kuala Lumpur flight on July 20, marking the beginning of the Sarawak-owned airline’s commercial operations and its introduction of a full-service travel experience for passengers.
