KUCHING: Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) is shining a spotlight on the powerful role of Dayak women in shaping Sarawak’s future as the state marks its independence anniversary today.

Its chairwoman, Datuk Alice Jawan Empaling, said the association’s upcoming Triennial General Meeting will carry the theme ‘Segulai Sejalai – Unity Towards Progress’, a rallying call for unity and empowerment across all levels of society.

“We aspire to be recognised for our vital role in preserving traditional knowledge and culture.

“Aside from that, we wish to have greater participation and representation in leadership and decision-making roles,” she told Sarawak Tribune.

The all-Dayak women non-governmental organisation (NGO) is also pushing for empowerment through access to education, economic opportunities, and resources – key pillars in building a future led by confident and capable women.

Alice also emphasised that traditional ecological knowledge must be part of the state’s sustainable development and environmental conservation strategies.

“Our goal is to cultivate a generation of confident, capable, and compassionate women leaders who will shape Sarawak’s future with vision and integrity,” she said.

As the state reflects on its journey of self-determination, SIDS makes it clear – Dayak women are not just preserving the past; they are leading the way forward.
