MIRI: A family of five were left homeless after their wooden house was destroyed in a fire at Jalan Pujut 3, Kampung Nelayan today (Aug 4).
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the 11.55am incident.
The fire completely destroyed the family’s traditional wooden home and caused minor damage to the kitchen area of a nearby two-storey house.
Firefighters from Lopeng and Miri stations were dispatched to the scene, about 14km away, following an emergency call.
Upon arrival, the team faced access challenges as fire engines were unable to reach the scene directly. Firefighters had to carry their equipment on foot across a 500-metre wooden walkway to reach the affected houses.
The flames were brought under control by 12.20 pm using water sourced from nearby house taps and the river.
Once the situation was deemed safe, the team concluded the operation at 1.54 pm.
The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
