KUCHING: Three long-delayed housing developments here have finally obtained their occupation certificates (OP) after having been billed as ‘sick projects.’

Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang who gave the update identified these as Taman Millennium, Taman Greenwoods and Fu Yu Garden.

In a statement, he said a joint site visit to the projects was conducted to hand over the OP to the respective developers, witnessed by Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Tan Kai, the ministry staff and MPP’s officials as well as relevant stakeholders including affected house purchasers.

“The Taman Millennium project located at Matang which was delayed by five years from the expected handing over of vacant possession in 2020, finally received the OP issued by PMC on July 25,” he said.

“Also located in the same vicinity, the Taman Greenwoods project has also been issued with the OP.

“It is through the collaborative efforts between the developer, Ministry and technical agencies in resolving technical compliance issues faced by the developer that finally allowed the issuance of OP by stages for 31 units of both single storey terrace and single storey semi-detached houses on July 21.”

Tiang added that some of these houses have been handed over to the respective owners, ending eight long years of delay in project completion for Taman Greenwoods.

“Rectification works for remaining units are currently on-going and expected to be completed soon.

“The Fu Yu Garden project, which is located at Jalan Batu Kawah, is finally completed and the OP was issued by MPP on Aug 1.”

According to him the project was delayed by more than two years from the expected handing over of vacant possession in 2022.

“The Ministry is committed to facilitate relevant stakeholders involved in the problematic housing projects to ensure that houses are successfully completed and purchasers could enter a place of shelter, safety and comfort,” he added.
