KUCHING: The Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) has reminded the public to remain cautious near rivers following a photo showing children swimming in waters known to be inhabited by crocodiles.
In a statement posted, SFC expressed disappointment over the photo, saying it was received from concerned individuals despite prior warnings about crocodile presence in the area.
“We’ve already informed residents that operations will be carried out to track and remove the crocodile. Yet, people are still seen swimming there,” the post read.
SFC warned that crocodiles, often nicknamed “Bang Boy” by locals, are always waiting for the right moment to strike.
“Please don’t be too trusting with ‘Bang Boy’. A crocodile on land is dangerous enough – let alone in the water,” it said.
SFC urged parents and guardians to closely monitor their children and not take safety for granted.
“Lives cannot be replaced. Don’t let regret come too late,” the post added.
The public is advised to avoid swimming in crocodile zones and report any sightings to the authorities immediately.
