BETONG: Preparations are underway for the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Betong Zone Convention 2026, which is expected to attract nearly 2,400 delegates on Aug 1 as part of the party’s statewide zonal convention series.
The convention, themed “Jaga Sarawak, Intu Sarawak” (Protect Sarawak, For Sarawak), will be held at Dewan Tan Sri Stephen Kalong Ningkan here and is expected to be officiated by Sarawak Premier and PBB president Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Preparations for the major party gathering were discussed during the first meeting of the Safety, Health and Cleanliness Committee, chaired by Kabong assemblyman Datuk Mohd Chee Kadir at the Betong Division Resident’s Office on Thursday (Jul 2).
The meeting focused on ensuring the convention is organised smoothly and efficiently, with discussions covering participant management, programme arrangements, logistics, security, reception protocols for guests of honour and coordination among the committees involved.
Mohd Chee said thorough preparation and close cooperation among all committees were essential to ensure the success of the convention, which will bring together party leaders and members from across the Betong Zone.
He said the meeting also served as a platform to coordinate follow up actions and ensure all preparations are carried out according to schedule.
The Betong convention, coordinated by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, is one of four zonal conventions organised by PBB this year. The series will begin with the Central Zone convention in Kapit on Jul 25, coordinated by PBB secretary-general Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, followed by the Northern Zone convention on Aug 29 under Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and the Southern Zone convention on Sept 12, coordinated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof.
A second committee meeting for the Betong Zone Convention is scheduled to be held on Jul 10 at 9 am at the Betong Division Resident’s Office.
