MIRI: Traditional Kenyah cuisine should be developed into a tourism and business product capable of putting Sarawak’s indigenous food heritage on the national and international map, says Dato Dennis Ngau.
The Telang Usan assemblyman urged the Kenyah community, particularly those in Miri, to be more entrepreneurial by opening restaurants and food outlets that showcase authentic traditional dishes.
He said the move could create new economic opportunities while preserving the community’s cultural heritage.
He said Kenyah food had the potential to become a distinctive Sarawak tourism offering if properly developed, promoted and commercialised.
At the same event, Dennis contributed RM20,000 to the Sarawak Kenyah National Association to support its activities.
He also called on the Orang Ulu community, particularly the Kenyah, to remain united in preserving their cultural identity while turning their heritage into a source of sustainable economic opportunity.
