KUCHING: Two teenagers were arrested for allegedly riding their motorcycles dangerously during an operation codenamed ‘Op Samseng Jalanan’ at Masja here last Sunday (Aug 10).
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the four-hour operation, from 4 pm to 8pm by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division, was aimed at curbing illegal street activities and ensuring compliance with traffic laws.
“Two local riders, aged 16 and 19, were taken into custody under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous riding.
“The team also seized three motorcycles under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987 after inspections found that they had been modified from their original specifications,” he said.
Throughout the operation, police also inspected 16 individuals and their motorcycles, and issued 17 summonses for various traffic offences.
Alexson said similar operations will be carried out regularly and urged road users to drive responsibly, avoid illegal street activities, and refrain from modifying their vehicles’ original structure.
“Reckless driving or riding can endanger other road users as well as their own lives,” he said.
