MIRI: A massive fire in the early hours of Thursday completely destroyed a plywood factory at Jalan Tunku, about 15km from Miri city centre.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the alarm was raised at 2.12 am, prompting a swift response from firefighters from the Miri, Lopeng and Lutong stations.
The first team arrived at 2.33 am, but the 80-by-300-foot permanent structure was already fully engulfed in flames.
Firefighters created a fire break to prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings.
The fire was brought under control by 3.35 am, after which firefighters carried out overhaul operations to extinguish lingering hotspots.
No casualties were reported, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The operation involved 22 firefighters, five emergency vehicles, and support from the police and Sarawak Energy.
