KUCHING: Sarawak continues to strengthen its position as a strategic investment destination as Longi, a leading player in the global clean energy industry, has pledged its commitment to making the region a regional hub for green energy innovation.

Longi founder and chief technology officer (CTO) Li Zhenguo said his visit to Sarawak was aimed at reinforcing the company’s long-term commitment to the region’s leadership.

“We are now entering a transition phase and opening a new chapter of operations in Malaysia. Our focus is not only on being a manufacturing hub, but also on becoming a regional innovation centre,” he was quoted as saying in a TVS report after paying a courtesy call on Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the Satria Pertiwi Complex here today (Aug 18).

He said that Longi has been operating in Kuching for nearly a decade, with 12 major plants and a workforce that once reached over 6,000 people.

“From a small factory, we have grown, thanks to the state’s governance stability and the dedication of local workers,” he said.

However, he said that the company has faced challenges over the past two to three years due to shifts in trade policies and global geopolitical uncertainties.

To ensure operational sustainability, Longi is now undertaking a restructuring exercise to become more resilient, comply with international standards, and remain competitive in the United States and other markets.
