KUCHING: Sarawak’s role in the development of various industries in Pasir Gudang, Johor, since the early 1980s has been recognised by Pasir Gudang City Council (MBPG) mayor Datuk Mustaffa Kamal Shamsudin.
During a courtesy call on Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the Satria Pertiwi Complex here on Monday (Aug 18), Mustaffa conveyed his appreciation for the contributions of Sarawakians who had long been part of Pasir Gudang’s industrial progress.
He noted that the involvement of Sarawakians in Pasir Gudang was no longer confined to manufacturing, commerce, and housing development, but had expanded into diverse business and service sectors.
“Today, their role has grown wider as many are actively involved in various business disciplines and services.
“The younger generation is also increasingly pursuing higher education at institutions, including Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas).”
Mustaffa also commended Sarawak’s new economic strategies such as methanol and ammonia production, hydrogen energy, floating solar projects, and more, saying these initiatives would generate high-income job opportunities.
He added that such developments would further support Sarawak’s push for free tertiary education and efforts to raise household incomes.
