KUCHING: The Salvation Army Kuching’s charity sale will be held at its community complex in Kota Samarahan on Sept 1.

Corps Officer, Lieutenant Kamaleswaran said the event aims to raise funds for the underprivileged.

“We hope that with the amount obtained from the charity sale, the work of the Salvation Army here can be further expanded and more underprivileged people can be assisted,” he said in a statement.

He added that the event, also known as Sale of Work, will start from 7.30 am until noon.

It will feature around 70 stalls offering homemade delights such as ayam pansoh, Sarawak laksa, nasi biryani and Korean rice cakes, tteokbokki, he said.

He said that among the highlights during the event will be a special performance by the Salvation Army Kuching Children’s Care Centre.

“Meanwhile, members of the public can enjoy free physiotherapy consultations and discounted physiotherapy therapies between RM15 and RM30,” he said.

Kamaleswaran said the charity sale will involve participation from several associations, churches and corporate partners, as well as individuals who have volunteered to contribute their energy and resources.

“Apart from that, the event also promises to be a day of wholesome family fun for all to enjoy good food and to make purchases for a good and lasting cause,” he said.

According to the Salvation Army Kuching, they have been providing care for minors who are orphaned, disabled, or come from high-risk families through its Kuching Children’s Home and Kuching Boys’ Home since 1959.

Over the years, the charity’s services have grown to include community care efforts such as family and financial counselling, food aid, emergency relief and a social enterprise thrift store.

In September 2023, both children’s homes relocated and merged into a new facility in Kota Samarahan, which is now known as Kuching Children’s Care Centre.

In July 2025, the Salvation Army Kuching started two new projects for the underprivileged.

The first involves a set of workshops designed to strengthen and promote healthier bonds between children and their parents in underprivileged communities.

The second project is an afterschool care programme for children from Kampung Kudei of primary school age where meals, homework guidance, character-building activities together with emotional and social support are provided.

However, there is now an increase in requests from people who need assistance, especially from marginalised communities due to the rising costs of living.

Thus, to allow the Salvation Army Kuching team to provide care and respite where it is most needed, the fundraising is essential and beneficial for the people especially in areas surrounding Kuching.
